Head Gardener (Sara)
2013
This is the first life size, full head portrait I have produced. I wanted to play with the fact that because the strokes themselves take up physical space, they can create a more organic effect than brush strokes on a flat surface can. I wanted to combine landscape and portraiture in a way that communicated information about the model. Essentially human beings construct their own reality in their heads in order to create the futures they hope to attain one day. This portrait represents an idealised image of sustainable living and the perfect garden in the mind of the subject.
